Stop Repeating The Same Patterns in Your Life (How to Build The Life You Want)
It's 11 am.
You woke up even more tired than when you went to bed last night.
Your body aches with stiffness and pain because you play sports non-stop and never rest or recover.
You are hungry.
You grab your phone and you spend another hour laying in bed scrolling on TikTok, and Instagram and answering snapchats.
It's noon.
You eat breakfast and decide what to do with your day.
As you are deciding, you realize the time.
You get angry at yourself for sleeping in, being on your phone, and doing nothing with yourself.
You spiral into a bunch of negative thoughts that keep you inside on the couch for the rest of the day.
You go on your phone again, this time with a plan to fix your meaningless life.
You get halfway through a promising Google search, and then you get a text from your friend who wants you to smoke and drink later.
Since you aren't concerned with fixing your meaningless life, you forget about the Google search, and text your friend back "I'm in."
Later that night, you don't even remember the Google search and how you attempted to try and take responsibility for those deep emotions of shame, and guilt and how you feel a deep lack of purpose and overwhelm about what to do with it.
You stay up late, order late-night junk food with your friend, and listen to music instead of having a conversation.
You scroll on social media and respond to snapchats from people you vaguely remember.
At least she's cute you think as you respond.
You fall asleep on your friend’s couch.
The next morning, you wake up at 11 am.
Tired as hell.
Then, you try and decide what to do with your day.
If this resonates, this should scare the shit out of you.
This is the problem:
You're addicted to the screen
You're addicted to cheap pleasures, dopamine holes, and numbing experiences
You're going to school to be educated on a role or a box to serve society & eventually retire at 65 (meaninglessness)
You're not being taught how to serve others through your unique skills and talents, to make money and live the life you want (meaningful)
You don't know what you are skilled at, because you don't know how to structure your days and create routines to unlock your potential and creativity
You are super athletic and are hoping a college scholarship helps you take responsibility for your life
You are unable to see the patterns in your life & don't understand that your body gives you the answers to your problems
But chances are, if this sounds like you, you aren't going to make it to college athletics.
What will you do if you don't make it?
You'll repeat the same patterns as above.
You will struggle to get a job you enjoy and you will come home every day and numb yourself to avoid thinking.
Your thoughts will become so negative that they will take control of your life.
The thoughts say:
you weren't good enough to play college sports
you wasted your youth without focus and discipline
your life now is a punishment because you gave up on your dreams by being distracted, overstimulated, and naïve.
This is why you see your parents, or your friend's parents full of nostalgia about their athletic careers.
They either got into college athletics and had a great time, but then didn't know what to do with themselves after so they got a boring job and now their life is mediocre
OR
they never made it to college athletics because they got a boring job and built themselves a mediocre life instead of doing what they wanted.
They did what society told them, and now all they can do is think back to the life they could have had if they had shown up.
Living in regret is the worst way to live.
It's like playing a video game you hate, on repeat.
But it's your life.
The Call From Within
Your body has a far greater intelligence than your mind. It knows exactly what you need when you need it. The problem is you don't listen. Your mind thinks it's in control and ignores the body and it's subtle speaking.
When you resist the calls of life, your body stores emotions of unhappiness, resentment, jealousy, and anger.
Your body starts to release these emotions haphazardly as you experience life.
Maybe you blow up on your coworker or partner (for no reason).
Maybe you cry all the time and don't know why
Maybe you are deeply unhappy but can't figure out why
These are normal situations when you resist the call to live.
Resisting The Call
Here are a few examples of what happens when I resist the call:
I get huge mental resistance to ignore the call that tells me I need to step up and take responsibility.
I begin to trust the mind when I turn down the call because I get overwhelmed by the call. After all, it is uncertain and scary.
I listen to the emotion and take it as fact... (This is how you stay stuck in the same life patterns, even for 60 years)
I fail to realize negative emotions are not facts, they are the start of a false story cooked up by the ego brain that is wired to protect you
In the past few months, I have reflected on the ways in my life I have resisted the call and why. This process of looking back on life and asking yourself "What calls did my body want me to take and why didn't I listen" has given me huge insight. It has provided me with the space for acceptance and forgiveness. I am so grateful.
The way to build the life you want is by noticing the mental resistance and taking responsibility by listening to your intuition instead.
Build The Life You Want = Answer The Calls (Good life)
Here's how I behave now, so I can answer the calls and live my best-aligned life.
I:
live at the edge of the known and the unknown
create a routine that keeps me structured in the morning and free to live spontaneously in the evenings
use the pillars of an actualized athlete to gain clarity on the resistance and embrace answering the call authentically.
You can download my free mini-playbook to gain clarity here:
see the mental resistance and know it is not the truth, so I always do the opposite of my initial reaction, always.
If you struggle with discipline and focus but want to start an introspective/meditative journey to answer your calls: you need a guide.
